1936 Gibson L-00
One of the most iconic guitar shapes ever and a favorite of the store, these old Gibson L-00's are getting more and more difficult to find. This instrument has a just barely visible "B" factory order or FON number putting it at 1936. The larger pattern sunburst as well as the lack of back-binding are also indicative of the time frame.
L-00's are beloved as a fingerpickers guitars, but they've also been seen in the hands of jazz artists like Mark Ribot or pop artists like Cheryl Crow. Nothing beats the throaty growl and punchy midrange of perhaps the most loved Gibson small body ever.
This particular one is in great shape for it's 88 years, boasting some lovely finish checking on it's nitrocellulose lacquer. There is a stable top crack coming of the back of the treble side of the bridge, but has been stabilized without an interior cleat to allow free vibration of the top. The center seam appears to have moved at one time, but is also completely stable.
There is evidence that the original bridge has been off at one time, and there is the slightest gap between the top and the bridge, but the instruments owner indicated this has been this way and stable for over twenty years.
Though completely playable, the next owner might want to have the neck reset, as one has not ever been performed.
Stew Mac Golden era tuning machines. Newer SKB molded hard case included.
Truly a historic instrument!
