1933 Gibson F2/F4 F-style Mandolin
Those of us who love vintage Gibson instruments can probably agree on one thing: that one of the premier instrument builders was consistently inconsistent!
This 1933 Gibson (serial number 90915) is labeled an F-2, however the Ivoroid-bound back is more consistent with an F-4. Though there have been reports of a handful of F-2's leaving the factory with a tortoise bound back, we have yet to see one that has the Ivoroid binding that is more indicative of the more elaborate F-4.
These oval hole F-styles have this amazing throaty growl that is perfect for jazz, old-time, celtic, or bluegrass.
Overall this instrument is in excellent shape, with no major repairs indicated. It has the classic repaired broken scroll extension on the headstock, but what 90 year-old mandolin does NOT have this?
The original frets do have some considerable wear, and it's next owner might want to upgrade to a more modern sized fret.
The original pickguard is included, though it is in a fragile state.
Original case included.
