The  Gibson Southern Jumbo is a legendary flat-top acoustic guitar that defined an era of American craftsmanship. Built during Gibson's golden age, this jumbo-sized instrument delivers powerful, resonant tone with exceptional projection and warmth. The trademark slope-shoulder body provides rich bass response and sustain, making it ideal for any style as well as  recording. Featuring Gibson's signature construction quality from this period, the Southern Jumbo is prized by collectors and professional musicians alike for its vintage character, tonal depth, and historical significance. A true classic that captures the essence of mid-century American guitar manufacturing.

This example from 1949 is in very good condition, and with very typical repairs,  for a seventy-seven year old instrument. This instrument has had a recent neck reset, and upgraded Waverly tuners. The bridge looks like it has been off at one time but looks original. According to Gibson,  an example from 1949 should be a reverse-belly bridge, but this might have been made early in the year. Belly below bridges were used from 1946 until the changeover in 1949.

There are a few big dings on the back that have been filled, and a repaired crack on the bottom near the endpin but no major breaks/cracks on the top, neck, headstock, etc.

This instrument sounds absolutely fantastic . . .incredible responsiveness, balance, and volume.

Non-original (though an older Gibson) cause included.
